Chicago May 26 David E. Lilienthal chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission called for greater public understanding of atomic energy decisions. He warned these are human decisions affecting our life and urged the press to inform the public while safeguarding secret knowledge. He said nuclear science is not an American monopoly and other nations will learn as well.

A House Judiciary subcommittee plans hearings on a constitutional amendment to make state electors reflect the popular vote. If approved by Congress and three fourths of the states the reform could alter future elections and may broaden turnout by making every vote count. Framed Plaques Tell Story Of Frederick Church
William A. Bailey, president of the Old Stone Church Memorial Association in Greenspring, accepted two framed plaques detailing the history of the Frederick County church. William Wood Glass gave a historical address at the ceremony, attended by about 200, introduced by H. F. Byrd Jr. Memorial service was led by William O. Parlett. stewards included Cecil H. Bailey and others. The Old Stone Church, built 1820 and rebuilt 1388, began as a school and became a Lutheran church in Northern Virginia. The record was compiled by B. Brooke Smith of Winchester, who donated it.

56 Head Cattle Bring Total Of 14950 At Tri-Bred Sale
Fifty six head of cattle brought a total of 14950 Saturday at the annual tri breed sale sponsored by the Northern Virginia Live stock Producers Association. The highest female a Polled Shorthorn with calf Collynne Keepsake was consigned by Mrs J P Hendrix of Bayard Va and purchased by Carroll Campbell of Winchester. R R Renalds of Timberville consigned the top bull Shena view s Prince Marshall II which was purchased by Caleb F Burns of Charles Town W Va. The Angus bull brought 500 Newton Cather paid 400 for the second highest which was consigned by Highland Farm Round Hill Va. The 56 head of cattle brought an average of 26697 per head 2716 more than in 1946. Bulls sold at the sale brought a total of 4350 an average of 290 while females sold for 10600 at an average of 25854 per head. The total and average by breed was as follows Six Bulls Bring 2160 Six Angus bulls brought 2160 and averaged 360. 20 Angus females sold for 5190 and aver aged 259. Five Hereford bulls brought 1300 and averaged 260 while 17 females sold for 4120 and averaged 24236. A total of 890 was grossed by the sale of four Shorthorn bulls which averaged 22250 while four females averaged 32250 and totaled 1290. Other entries bringing top bids in their breed were Hereford bull Dinwiddie Elation 37th consigned by Dinwiddie Farms Middleburg sold to Roy L Bageant of Winchester for 300 Shorthorn bull Farnley Comet Continued on Page 2 Col 3.

State Officers Seek Thp Who Killed Farmer
Gretna Virginia May 26 police pursue a trio of white men after they shot and killed a well to do Negro farmer near the Gilbert farm three and a half miles from Gretna. A 32 caliber weapon was found near Ernest Gilbert's home and the assailants fled in a car or truck. The men allegedly posed as officers seeking loot from a robbed service station.

Pay Drown As Father Marries In Hospital
George N. Nicholson recovering from accident injuries at Riverside Hospital when his son David, 17, drowned in the Potomac River near Walker’s Point last Friday. The elder Nicholson, a Naval Mine Depot worker at Yorktown, married his 27 year old Washington sweetheart Milared Capristman in his hospital room as the tragedy occurred. Companions say David cried for help but was swept away by a swift current before aid could reach him.

In North Carolina a 24 year old Negro, Godwin Buddy Bush, escaped a lynch mob after being seized from Northampton County jail for alleged rape.
