Shotgun rampage in Nassau leaves seven dead
In Nassau Bahamas a man wielding a shotgun killed seven people and wounded six during a two hour car rampage through South Nassau. Ruben Rolle 30 died by shotgun near his home after police surrounded a two square mile area. Police say the first victim was Rolle’s wife and the spree haunted neighbors and bystanders, with one man dying of a heart attack while aiding victims.

Train Collision Kills Man, Injures Five in Maryland
In Landover Maryland an early morning collision of two Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives pulling freight cars killed 48 year old Harry Wayne Edwards of Oxford and left five others injured. A later gas tank car leak caused a fire but no additional injuries. The wreck occurred at Route 50 and 202 Cheverly near Washington with at least 26 cars derailed.

First Fatal UN Cyprus Casualty Blamed on Turkish Cypriots
In Cyprus a Finnish radio operator Juliana Matikainen, 27, was killed in a two hour battle between Turkish Cypriots and Finnish peacekeeping patrols near Kanli six miles northwest of Nicosia. The UN reported she was hit by three bullets while in a patrol car as Turkish positions fired about 20 shots. Lt. Col. A Kettinen led a response with a platoon and armored carriers. Deep regret was voiced by Amit Suleyman of Turkish Cypriot leadership, with a promise of full investigation. The 16,500 strong UN force includes about 1,000 Finns along with troops from Britain Canada Ireland Sweden Denmark and Austria.
