SPACE CENTER Houston AP reports Apollo 10 astronauts rapid progress toward a risky moon rendezvous. They eliminated a final course correction and sped deeper into space toward the moon, with Earth fading in the distance.
In the three area high schools 643 seniors are enrolled, up 78 from last year. James Wood leads with 348 students, Handley 186, and Clarke County 109, with girls outnumbering boys in each. Baccalaureate services are planned June 1 at James Wood, June 8 at Handley and Clarke, with graduation events to follow June 6 9 and 13 respectively.
The 300000 member U S Junior Chamber of Commerce will urge Americans to turn on porch and car lights Memorial Day weekend to support the President's Vietnam stance. Apollo 10 astronauts Stafford Young and Cernan report a smooth mission with no illnesses and precise navigation, as mission control notes a successful midcourse correction and plans for lunar orbit and a near sea of Tranquility descent.
Cincinnati voters approve a 5.2 mill property tax increase to fund nearly 85,000 public school pupils for the year. Turnout topped 109,000 with 57 percent in favor. If defeated, $8 million in cuts and loss of several school days were threatened.

Allied paratroopers and South Vietnamese infantry captured the mountaintop fortress Dong Ap Bia after a ten day battle in the A Shau Valley near the Laos border. U S casualties totaled 426 North Vietnamese 43 Americans with 273 paratroopers wounded. The assault involved over 1 000 paratroopers and 400 South Vietnamese as four battalions closed in from four sides. The mountaintop appeared to be the 29th North Vietnamese Regiment headquarters and a delaying force remained until nightfall.
President Nixon and South Vietnamese Chief of State Nguyen Van Thieu will travel to Midway Island on June 8 for a one day summit to align on a peaceful Vietnam strategy likely covering troop withdrawals and elections. The White House confirmed the plan after Rogers met Thieu in Saigon. Spiro Agnew will stand in for Nixon at Kin State University commencement the next day.
Ambassadors Hotel in Los Angeles sues for 85 000 in services to the Kennedy for President campaign claiming unpaid hotel accommodations services and goods. Named defendants include National Kennedy for President Committee Kennedy National Headquarters Kennedy Campaign Committee and its trustees.
Secretary of State Rogers told SEATO ministers in Bangkok that the United States will not abandon its commitments to Southeast Asia and remains open to a negotiated settlement in Vietnam. He stressed limited resources require balancing domestic and overseas claims while preserving free choice for South Vietnam and preventing a broader Vietnamese conflict.
Rioters clashed at Lincoln University in Jefferson City with gunfire and fires across three campus buildings. National Guardsmen patrolled after police came under fire while Berkeley demonstrators faced tear gas and clubs at People’s Park, where Janes Rector died from a gunshot wound and hospital officials cited acute heart failure.
A cold front moving toward Virginia will bring dry cool air into the state. The change is expected to lower temperatures and ease conditions across the region as the system progresses.
