North Vietnamese shells struck a U.S. Air Force C130 at Kontum airfield in the central highlands today. The attack killed seven Americans aboard and wounded two others, damaging the transport and nearby munitions stores.
House and Senate negotiators reach a compromise delaying court desegregation busing orders for 18 months as part of a broader higher education bill. The agreement narrows antibusing provisions, with a Jan 1 1974 expiration and hopes a Supreme Court ruling will clarify the issue.

Wallace sweeps Michigan and Maryland primaries with 51 percent and 40 percent respectively. McGovern and Humphrey split secondary shares, while Nixon led Republicans in both states.
