No State Tax Hire Yet Exceeds Revenue in Virginia Budget
Gov. Mills Godwin says next biennium budget requests will exceed estimated revenues by a wide margin. After briefing reporters, he would not commit to a tax increase and said decisions likely in fall depend on revenue trends. The administration notes maintaining services would require $400 million more, while agency requests total $800 million, needing $1.2 billion in new revenues to meet them.
