U S Marines evacuated from Koh Tang after a helicopter assault to recover a captured gunboat and its crew. Pentagon said the last helicopter left the island at 9 10 a m EDT as two destroyers remained offshore to ensure no one was left behind.

A 7:45 p.m. blaze at Winchester Cold Storage destroyed the old packing house. Police arrested two men for public drunkenness. a third suspect remained at large.
