A Marlboro mill and a nearby timber covered bridge over Cedar Creek were destroyed by fire overnight. The L. L. Link mill, built of stone and wood and powered by a water wheel, suffered about 15 000 dollars in losses plus 5 000 dollars in machinery and stock. replacing the bridge could cost Frederick County six to eight thousand dollars. The old 150 foot covered bridge, connecting Frederick and Shenandoah counties, was an historic structure. The blaze began in the mill basement after a watchdog alarm and a bright glare. Insurance on the mill stood at four thousand dollars through H. S. Lupton and Son.

A husky puppy born during the Byrd Antarctic expedition reached Winchester yesterday afternoon by express. Consigned to Thomas B. Byrd, brother of Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd, the pup was shipped from a New Hampshire town where the expedition dogs are headquartered. Husky pups were born on the ice barrier and are being distributed to relatives and friends of the expedition crew.
