Forest Fires Rage in Frederick County Great North Mountains
A major forest fire has burned over five thousand acres in western Frederick County near the West Virginia line since last Friday. About 100 laborers from the mountains, employed by the U S Department of the Interior, work in 75 person shifts to contain the blaze, which started near Hamp ton and progressed north toward The Big Survey owned by a Philadelphia syndicate. Firefighters say they are gaining the upper hand and using back firing to trap and reduce the fire.

Large Bible Class of Washington to Attend Winchester Visit

Mrs Eliza Grim Dies After Long Illness at 71
Mrs Eliza J Grim widow of former Winchester police chief Arthur Grim died just before midnight at her home 706 South Loudoun street after a lingering illness aged 71 years 7 months. She leaves three daughters Etta Annie Pearl and two sons Robert and Claude Grim all of Winchester and brother J Scott Carper of Carper's Valley. Funeral at 3 pm Monday from 706 South Loudoun conducted by Rev J Luther Neff with burial in Mount Hebron in the Grim lot beside her husband. She was a devoted church member and known for kindness to the sick and distressed.

Barn Fire Destroys Farm Stock and Equipment Near Hampton
A large barn on Isaiah McIlw ee and G Fisher’s farm near Hampton west of Star Tannery burned early yesterday, costing about 8000 dollars. Four horses five cows and several hogs and sheep were cremated. Two trucks and two autos, plus machinery and feed, were lost. Mrs McIlw ee awakened by flames released one cow. others perished. Owners returned at 7 am to ruins and may have had little or no insurance. Origin of the fire is unknown though not linked to a forest fire.
