Secretary Melvin Laird voiced optimism about Cmdr. Lloyd M. Bucher career prospects in the Navy. Secretary of the Navy John Chafee added he does not think the Pueblo incident affects Bucher's future.
Congress and the White House signaled agreement with Navy Secretary Chafee's plan to close the Pueblo incident without punishments or formal declarations of innocence. Cmdr. Lloyd Bucher expressed satisfaction, while officers Harris and Murphy await promotion decisions and prior leaders plan retirement or reassignment as the case leaves a lasting Navy legacy.

An am munition laden truck collided with another vehicle in Macon Georgia early today igniting hundreds of 20mm cannon rounds that lit a three quarter mile area. Two people were struck by shells four injured and hospitalized. Victims include Lt John R Davis of the Macon fire department and Milligan Frazier of Lexington Kentucky.
Lebanese government sources report Hasbaya in southern Lebanon near the Israeli border under siege by about 2000 Al Saika guerrillas linked to Syria. Lebanese troops have fought the militants for days with a peak in a day long clash aimed at using Hasbaya as a launch point for incursions into Israel.

A 63 year old minister from Danville Virginia said two youths forced him into the trunk of his car and forced him to ride 200 miles before escaping near Marion South Carolina. He reported the incident to police and the FBI is handling the case.
