City council hears complaints of static on local radio reception caused by motor driven devices. Dr E A Crowl proposes a $90 installation to counteract interference. Council seeks city solicitor ruling on enforceability before acting. Also discussed a carnival permit for Sarah Zane Fire Company on Rouss avenue.
City Council disputed a Star article on Apple Blossom Festival spending. Councilman J H Henry said city funds totaled about 2500 dollars including 400 for extra police 300 for radio broadcast 150 in license gifts and 1650 for cleaning stations water piping and other services. City hall decoration could not be finished due to funds, with court room and lobby already done.
Household furniture including many antique pieces will be sold at public auction on Thursday May 8 at 10 a m. The sale is hosted by Mrs H P Tabb located at 411 West Clifford Street.

Little Audrey V Reynolds aged four or five died after her head was crushed when it was caught between a truck cab and a heavy beam at her home in Kernstown. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs G A Reynolds and sister Peggie. Service planned at her home with burial at Mount Hebron.

Henry Kaspar from the Handley Kaspar School of Music Washington will perform with two pianos assisted by Mrs Kaspar and students. Fire outbreaks spread from New Jersey to Maryland and New Hampshire amid a dry spring. Authorities report arson suspicions in Monmouth County and Maryland foresters investigate blame for thousands in damage. The tally includes 60 plus New Jersey blazes, 40,000–50,000 acres burned, and the first fatality from the New Jersey fires.
H E Ambler 24, NYT staffer recuperating from influenza at Charles Town West Virginia, was struck by a Baltimore and Ohio freight train near the horse show grounds. He waved to the crew before the fatal incident. Funeral plans to be held in Charles Town with family awaiting arrival.
Harry M. Sears 64 of 63 W street NW shot himself in a private garage after grieving over his daughter Florence Darlington killed in the November 11 McCrory Five and Ten explosion at 416 Seventh street. A 32 caliber pistol lay near him. a suicide note addressed to his son-in-law Charles Darlington was found. He was taken to Casualty Hospital in dying condition.

The Senate voted 41 to 39 to reject John J. Parker as an associate justice, the first SCOTUS rejection since 1894. Debate centered on Parker’s views on organized labor and race, with allegations of vote buying and accusations of White House partisanship. Police investigated office break-ins reported by several senators.
A May 7 report from Washington North Carolina describes a daytime fire of undetermined origin destroying an entire block. Two tobacco warehouses a redrying plant seven dwellings and a store were burned with losses estimated at 200000 by the fire department.
Handley High School presents its annual joint concert by the Band Orchestra and Quartet in the Handley School Auditorium Friday night at 8 15. New York May 7 The Atlantic fleet with 30000 jackets arrived in town for a twelve day visit and spring shore leave. The battleship California flying Admiral Louis Nurton’s flag led the ships through Ambrose Channel to anchor in the Hudson. A fleet of 140 navy planes flew over New York in a tactical display after forming off Norfolk and staging from carriers Saratoga Lexington and Langley.
A Baltimore man named Dick Halliday, 23, died in an early morning crash on Marley Neck road. Witnesses say Thomas Bennett, 23, who was driving, overturned the car after straying onto a cinder road while attempting a turn. Bennett was arrested pending investigation. Injured were Miss Marjorie Hanson, 21, and Miss Billie Bright, 22, both of Center ville, and Thomas Bennett. Halliday was noted as socially prominent. Hanson is a debutante. The party had been out clubbing and returning home.
