Harvey Clifford died in University Hospital Charlottesville Va after a illness of complications. Walter Bitre Dies After Weekslong Artificial Breathing
Walter Boothe, a Roanoke farmer lad, died at 6 a.m. after more than two weeks of artificial respiration. He collapsed from a dislocated vertebrae April 20 and survived through heroic efforts by friends who raised and lowered his arms to force air into his lungs. He showed brief improvement after a late operation at Jefferson Hospital but never recovered. He spoke of life after death as his curtain drew near, while family and helpers remained at his bedside.
