In New York a cross examination of Henry Judd Gray, the cor salesman, continued as he testified that Ruth Brown Snyder joined the attack that killed Alfred Snyder. Gray described his alibi efforts in Syracuse and his automatic involvement, with Deputy District Attorney Richard Newcombe pursuing details. Mrs Snyder prepared to return to the stand to challenge Gray’s account as spectators caused disorder and food in the courtroom was halted.
At Caledonia Prison Farm North Carolina more than 300 white convicts struck for a 55 hour work week and Saturday off. After wrecking cell houses they were quieted by a no food or water policy but surrendered when crackers and water were promised to denounce ring leaders. Troops were sent to scene.
CHERBOURG France May 6 American philanthropist August Heckscher rushed back to New York after learning of a New York suit by Metropolitan Opera star Frieda Hempel seeking 48000 a year for life for breach of contract. He arrived aboard Leviathan and left reservations to Paris, saying it does not concern him. He canceled the train and booked passage on the Columbus sailing tonight.
An appealing Mother's Day pageant will be presented at 8 o clock Sunday evening by First Christian Church. The cast is carefully chosen and trained under Mrs. Boyd R. Richards. The public is invited and transportation by automobile is offered for the aged or infirm upon calling 169 J.
