Wagner Predicts Quick Passage Of Helping Rails

Chairman Wagner told reporters there will be no opposition to legislation from his Senate banking committee. The bill would authorize the reconstruction finance corporation to loan to railroads for equipment purchases secured by the equipment and to carriers for maintenance with 75 percent of the funds used to reemploy workers laid off since last September. The measure would suspend a prior law until June 90, 1939, delaying RFC lending to railroads until certification of need for reorganization. Jones said some roads might not obtain such certification but loans could be repaid later.
