Thousands of school children and bands parade the city as the eighth Apple Festival opens. Miss Morton 15 is crowned Blossom Festival Queen amid balmy spring weather. Torchlight parade tonight features Winchester and nearby fire companies with prizes for best uniforms and comical skits.

William Johnson was found guilty of cutting Ollie Jasper in Corporation Court. Judge Williams gave three months on the State roads and a $5 fine plus costs, noting the offense could have drawn ten years for assault with a deadly weapon. The lighter sentence came after the judge said both sides lied on the witness stand. Johnson reportedly attacked Jasper after questioning Jasper’s attention to Johnson’s wife, leaving Jasper grievously wounded before leaping from a second-story window.
Bryan Antidt arrived in Towner after visiting President Hoover in Washington. The boy, who carried a gift gun from Allan Hoover, was greeted by a crowds at the depot amid cheers from children. He left with photographer captions and a security escort for a twelve mile drive to the United ranch.

The Staunton Military Academy corps and band from Staunton Virginia will arrive in Winchester for a two week annual encampment beginning May 22. About six hundred cadets will drill and perform band concerts at Rouss Spring Park, prepared by the city. The visit has become a welcomed yearly event in the community.
