Cadet Captain Franklin Pauley announced a double B flat bass and the drum corps includes ten. The band totals 36 members and featured new drill while playing.

Washington visit ends with well wishes and flying crosses as Major Fitzmaurite Baron von Huenefeld and Captain Koehl depart Bolling Field en route to New York.
Attorney general of Virginia rules that only names of nominees in the democratic primary for mayor and council may appear on the official ballot. Voters may erase a name and insert another, even by rubber stamp, allowing independents to be substituted for party nominees. Details note independents Cooper Garber and Robinson vs Democratic nominee Shryock and the June 12 election.
The Norfolk and Western Railway Company delegation arrived in Winchester with the Roanoke Machine Shops Band of 30 under Bandmaster Dilworth. They will form a parade division and perform concerts at the Googe Washington Hotel and in front of the courthouse. Officials from Roanoke New York and Berryville travel with the group.
Two planes including a seaplane dropped four bombs over Shanghai causing a great commotion in the international settlement. Bombs exploded near Shanghai Southay station and arched warships off the Kidagnan arsenal. two women were injured along with two cows. The attackers were believed to be from the northern cruiser Hatcht, who fled after the raid.
Washington May 3 All presidential candidates are to be asked to appear before the special Senate committee to inquire into campaign expenditures. Telegrams were sent to all candidates asking testimony at their convenience and to name their agents who would report on expenditures. The start on the investigation may be made by next Monday as many candidates are already in Washington.
Clara Blanche Knapp an instructor at Middlebury College testified she did no work on the 1925 New York state census and did not know she was on the state payroll. She is accused of diverting a payroll check for 2875.06 made out to her stepmother former secretary of state Florence Knapp.

Enormous crowds gathered at Handley High School grounds for the first presentation of the pageant Springtime in the Great Valley as part of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. The event featured Handley High School Orchestra under Prof. W H McIlwee and the U S Navy Band directed by Lieut Carpenter, with Edna Eighmey Petrescu as principal organizer. The pageant included interpretative dances, historical episodes from 1730 to Revolutionary times, and a large chorus, with a long roster of performers listed in order of appearance. The pageant closed with tributes to the Spirit of Springtime.
