Miss Boxley, chosen to rule over the Apple Blossom Festival, will be the guest at W A Bakers. The event marks the queen’s entrance into her realm as festival duties begin.
Governor Byrd will crown the queen in the absence of her brother who cannot attend due to the death of a devoted friend. An Egyptian minister attends the fete and Radford Teachers College is represented.
Virginia forecast calls for fair tonight and Thursday with slightly higher temperatures, especially in the extreme west. Gentle northwest winds accompany the sporadic sunshine.
Miss Mary Wise Boxley of Roanoke Va will preside over the fifth annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester tomorrow and Friday. She arrives tonight with her parents and sister and will stay with local hosts. Commander Byrd will not attend. his brother Governor Harry F Byrd will take his place arriving by an army blimp from Richmond. The coronation is set for 5 PM at Handley Stadium with a pageant "Springtime in the Great Valley" to follow the children’s parade.

The funeral for Miss Florence A Burgess who died suddenly at her home in Fort Loudoun will be at 5 pm this afternoon from her residence. Rev. Murray D. Mitchell of Braddock Street Methodist Episcopal Church South will conduct the service. Burial is in Mount Hebron Cemetery. She was from a long established local family and survived by her sister Miss Gertrude Burgess and nieces and nephews.
James Albert Lake aged 67 a retired farmer died last night at the home of his daughter Mrs Anna B McFarland 427 Highland Avenue following a long illness He was a native of Clarke County Virginia He is survived by two sons Maurice and Richard Lake three daughters Etta Barron of Charles Town West Virginia Anna B McFarland Winchester and Virginia Lake Martinsburg one sister Mrs Elizabeth Wilson Stradburg Virginia The funeral will be held tomorrow Thursday at 4 pm from Highland Avenue Presbyterian Church with Rev Harper officiating Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery
Andrew Bell of the Chamber of Commerce announces the Apple Blossom Festival housing bureau will move this evening to the George Washington Hotel building. A special telephone line No 25 will be installed. Miss Mary Louise Barr and Mr and Mrs F L Harris will assist in giving out information and answering housing inquiries.
The Robt. Y. Conrad Post American Legion asks spectators to salute the flag as it passes in the parade tomorrow and Friday by coming to attention and removing hats.
Fox Films creates an all out production for Loves of Carmen with Raoul Walsh directing Victor McLaglen Dolores Del Rio and Don Alvarado in leading roles. Large outdoor and interior sets built at Fox Hills California include castles bullfighting arena and nearly 100 interiors. Spanish costumes procured from Spain and four advisers ensure authentic atmosphere as the Empire Theatre hosts a two day showing starting Thursday.
Magnus C. Leach a well known Warren county farmer was killed when a wagon loaded with wood overturned on a road near Reliance. Found by his wife the body was pinned beneath the load with likely instantaneous death. Survived by widow three married daughters two sons a sister and three brothers. Funeral at Reliance with burial in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester. Funeral services led by Rev H Fugene Richardson.
Friendship Fire Company calls all members with uniforms to report in uniform at Friendship Hall at 1 o'clock Friday for the Apple Blossom Festival parade. Members without uniforms may apply to the driver to obtain one. Captain Fred W. Forney urges all uniforms to be filled and in line.

Winchester Lodge of Elks No. 867 plans a banquet at the George Washington Hotel to mark the twenty fifth anniversary of its institution in Winchester. Committee members are J H Henry, W R Pifer, George B Bushnell and Robert Barr. The lodge was instituted May 1908 and many original members have died or left.
Funeral of Mrs Annie Douglas Gray Beverley widow of Capt J B Beverley Sr was held at Christ Episcopal Church with a large crowd and floral tributes. Rev Robert B Nelson led the service with psalms and hymns and the burial followed in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Pallbearers included William Beverley and Judge Philip Williams among others with relatives and out of town mourners from Virginia and Richmond.

City Council discusses a proposed 15 000 to 20 000 dollar two foot diameter sewer line to carry apple waste from northwest Winchester plants across to Cameron street and to the Town Run to relieve sewage overflows into cellars. The plan was referred to the sewer committee for study.

Pennsylvania Railroad officials and workers prepare to participate in the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester Virginia on March 3 and 4. The float features four states Pennsylvania West Virginia Maryland with banners and a display of apple blossoms, while executives join in private cars and the crew supplies are arranged through the Cumberland Valley division.
