Lions Club screening reduces parade count to about 210 units led by Grand Marshal James Cagney. Queen Shenandoah XXX Anne Denise Doughty-Tichborne and featured acts including Patsy Cline and Johnny Morris will appear. Parade forms at 1 pm with 2 pm start and a projected three and a half hour pass.
A comprehensive list of festival activities from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM including amusements, pageants, parades, concerts, beauty contests, luncheon honoring Wendell Ford, grand feature parade led by James Cagney, an old fashioned music contest, dances, square dance, and Princesses Ball at venues across Winchester with performances by local bands and noted figures.

Mary Ann Jenkins of Rappahannock High School Washington Virginia won the first annual Northern Shenandoah High Schools apple pie contest held this morning at James Wood School. Runner-up was Sharon Louise Wilson of Keyser West Virginia High School. The contest took place in the home economics department.

Solenbergers Hardware Co and Northern Virginia Power Co took first in Commercial and Artistic divisions at the Apple Promotion Contest during the Apple Blossom Festival. G and M Music Co was second, Baker and Anderson third. honorable mentions to Safeway and Winchester Furniture. Gaunt's Drug Store was second in Artistic, Huntsberry's Shoe Store third, Baker and Anderson again honorable mention for second window. Over 50 business displays. finals from ten in each division. Festival Queen Anne Tichborne of Winchester England sent greetings to Apple Blossom Queen Shenandoah XXX at the Joint Civic Clubs luncheon at George Washington Hotel. A scroll honoring Mrs. Walker McC. Bond was presented, and guest speakers included Ted Malone.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved by 9 to 6 vote the nomination of Scott McLeod as ambassador to Ireland. McLeod, previously State Department security officer, advances after the committee’s third straight day of consideration.
