Republican leaders urged President Eisenhower to go to the people with a radio television appeal on the budget and foreign aid. Senator Knowland said a public address would help on this issue though time for such a speech was not set.
The mayors of Romney and Capon Bridge in Hampshire County West Virginia were invited by Festival President Thomas G Scully to attend the coronation of Queen Shenandoah XXX tomorrow. Afterward the officials and their wives will meet the Queen for photographs to be published in the Hampshire Review Romney and Hampshire England papers. Mayor David Shear and Mayor Ray Wolford will attend with their spouses. Hove Riley will host the mayors and their wives. Closing notices for the festival period and related local notices follow.

The Department of Public Safety and Public Service outlines two days of safety for residents and visitors. Led by L. W. Wallace Jr with Harold D. Patton, the team provides fire protection first aid stations public drinking and comfort facilities plus seating policing ticketing information housing transport and grievance oversight. First aid stations supervised by Mrs. Mary Farmer will be at the District Nurse Office 206 N Cameron St 10 S Loudoun St and the Handley grounds east end. Friendship Ambulance and Rescue Squad will assist.
Postmaster Wilbur R. Johnston announces the two day Apple Blossom Festival will close Winchester offices at noon. City carriers will deliver newspapers and first class mail by 8 am, with rural routes starting earlier. Parcel post and special deliveries continue on adjusted schedules.

Thursday festival features a 104 member Princeton High School Band concert at the Armory, a National Apple Blossom Majorette Contest, all day amusements and free movies at Palace Theatre, and a Queen Shenandoah coronation with a pageant. Ted Malone serves as parade marshal with fireworks and a Handley Bowl display.
The largest volunteer firemen’s parade in the region will march tomorrow night in Winchester led by Marshal Ted Macrone with 246 units, up from last year by three. Local, county, and out-of-town rigs from Maryland Pennsylvania and West Virginia join local companies in a two-part procession ending with a fireworks display on Handley grounds. Distinguished guests include Virginia Lieutenant Governor A E S Stephens Congressman Burr Harrison and Winchester officials.
No collections will occur during the Apple Blossom Festival. Garbage for Thursday May 2 will be collected Monday May 6 and garbage for Friday May 3 will be collected Tuesday May 7. The paper notes a business closing for the festival day and local ads.
