West Virginia faces large road funding needs in 1925 26
Governor Gore told lawmakers in Charleston that five and a half million dollars more revenue is needed for the next two years to sustain road maintenance. He cited $1.25 million for 1925 and $1.0 million for 1926, with interest on unsold bonds driving the rise. The gas tax and license fees cannot cover $35 million in bonds, requiring $600,000 more for sinking funds. He opposes direct state tax increases and urges continued local use of such funds. The biennial maintenance bill tops $B760,000, with road upkeep the main priority.
