The Military Schools Division of The Trail of the Pink Petals announces completion of preparations for this year’s Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival fete. Committees labor to ensure a two day program unmatched in its scope, honoring volunteers whose quiet work makes the festival a national symbol of Virginia’s spring beauty.
Director General Fred A Read Jr announces the annual citizen mass meeting to endorse the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival will be held Tuesday March 31 at 8 p.m. at the George Washington Hotel. Delegations from Winchester, Frederick County, nearby communities, and executives from rail, bus and steamship firms will attend.
Winter freezes and spring floods have damaged Virginia roads and bridges to about 1.63 million dollars. Officials report 1.0 million from freezes and 0.63 million from floods, mainly bridges. Two weeks needed to verify figures. Highway Commissioner H G Shirley says reorganization of the program is required.
Mrs Met a Haseman Himelright widow of James H Himelright formerly of the Star Tanning section dies at 1 30 this morning at her home 715 South Washington street in the ninety first year of age Native of Germany born Bremen October 5 1845 she came to the United States at age 20 with her brother Henry Haseman and settled in Baltimore later moving to Frederick county where she married Mr Himelright Continuous on page three mentions luncheon and local ads.
In Washington on March 28 the will of Dr. William Holland Wilmer, famed eye specialist, is admitted to probate. Widow gets life estate in most property while his three children Richard Hooker Wilmer, Rebekah Wilmer Sard, and William Holland Wilmer III receive the bulk at her death. Other beneficiaries include Frances Arant Wilmer and grandson Richard H. Wilmer III. Bequests to Episcopal Cathedral Foundation and universities. Wilmer's eye collection goes to Johns Hopkins Institute. Mrs. Wilmer named executor.
Golconda Illinois residents fled to high ground as the Ohio River swelled into the Mississippi. Front street saw water above five feet with 12 to 15 Golconda families evacuated and about 100 lowland residents moving from Pope County. In the Cincinnati area two score families left Ohio or Kentucky homes as the river crested near 60.6 feet.
Weather outlook for the period starting Monday in the North and Middle Atlantic states. Rain Monday ending Monday night or Tuesday, likely changing to snow in and near the mountains. Rain again Thursday or Friday. Much colder Monday and Tuesday with a rising temperature trend later in the week followed by a colder end.
The American Federation of Labor reported February unemployment fell by about 95,000 amid spring planning activity. The federation pegged jobless at 12,500,000 for February versus 12,595,000 in January.

A Sanitary Engineering director reports excessive pollution from floods. Richmond tests found safe city hall water, prompting daily Baltimore analyses. A joint Board of Health and Water Committee meeting discussed the issue.
In a lively convention opening, Ewing won a sharp contest over Cape Charles candidate William A. Dickinson. Final county roll call: Ewing 179, Dickinson 59. Henry A. Wise praised wide regional representation and urged a major campaign to resist autocratic rule and defend the nation.

She appears under the Woman's Auxiliary of Christ Church and motion pictures will illustrate the address. Everyone is invited.
St Peters burg parade chairman William T. Davis faces new objections as two entries in the doubtful class appear for the Festival of States parade. Critics cited Nudity and morals concerns while Davis warns of continued conflict and considers retirement from future parades.
Gov. Harold G. Hoffman said he would not grant Hauptmann another reprieve. He avoided committing to future action if new developments occur. An insider source said Hauptmann faces near-certain execution unless the Court of Pardons intervenes, which it is said will not, as it is a clemency body not a trial court. Hauptmann maintains his innocence.
In Cologne Hitler closes Nazi election campaign with cabinet present. He calls on every German to interrupt activities and sing Lord, Make Us Free as he pushes for a yes in the Reichstag election. The event blends religious rhetoric with militarization cues.
The body of Fred L. Glaize Sr. who died in San Francisco will reach Martinsburg West Virginia at 7 oclock tomorrow morning and go directly to his East Piccadilly street home. Earlier reports stated a 2 50 oclock arrival tomorrow afternoon.
Culpeper circuit jurors heard the case of H. M. Hawkins Culpeper town officer charged with fatally wounding William J. Elliott at Elliott’s home in Culpeper. The jury received the evidence for deliberation.

The body of a middle aged woman was found floating in the water off Cape Henry by the coast guard cutter Dionne. Norfolk coast guard headquarters identified the deceased as Grace Wright King of Essex Fells New Jersey, reported missing from the Old Dominion Line ship George Washington on March 23.
