Mrs Laura Pennington Braithwaite died at her granddaughter’s home in Edinburg aged sixty five after years of declining health following a stroke. Widow of Francis Braithwaite, she belonged to Hampshire County’s long esteemed family. Surviving daughters are A K Sirbaugh Maggie Grant and Lydia Chrismore of Winchester. sons C N Braithwaite Hayfield Va and L J Braithwaite Pennville Pa. Funeral Saturday at 10 from Sirbaugh home with services at Shiloh Church and interment there. Pallbearers named. Sincere sympathy extended to the family.
Gov. H G Kump vetoed a bill to legalize pari mutuel racing in West Virginia calling the measure unconstitutional because its title did not match the text. The action was taken in Charleston with the bill aimed at directing 3 percent of gross receipts to the state school fund.
