More than one hundred thousand dollars net deposit increase across four Winchester banks between nine and three yesterday boosted officials’ optimism for a steady economic upturn. Withdrawals were normal while deposits rose by 100 700 dollars after adjustments for out of town checks. James M Brown a Winchester bank director and Northern Virginia stock dealer died at 522 North Loudoun Street after a several year illness. Born January 3 1857 in Frederick County he helped organize the Commercial and Savings Bank and remained on its board. He was active in Winchester United Brethren Church and Sarah Zane Fire Company and leaves two daughters Maude and the other survivor not named.
