Financing of SST Approved by House Appropriations

The House Appropriations Committee approved full financing for SST development, authorizing 289.9 million dollars for two prototypes with one due to fly by March 1973. The panel warned funds cover prototypes only and not commercial production, citing potential economic and trade benefits if sales reach 300 to 500 aircraft. Representative Sidney Yates criticized the conclusions, questioning private financing viability and concern over supersonic flights over populated areas.
