Thirteen sailors from the Tomozuru torpedo boat recall ghastly hours after the vessel capsized with 113 aboard near Sasebo Japan. Sixty six bodies were removed by morning while rescuers cut holes and hatchways to reach others. A gust of fresh air revived a few, enabling them to reach the surface and be saved.
New York stock market tempered by caution as Washington efforts on strikes influence prices. Bonds climbed to new highs in years, wheat improved while cotton, silver and rubber futures held even. Foreign exchanges were featureless with the pound at 5.09 dollars in London.
Maurice Murnan and Charles Secklers were fined five dollars plus costs each in police court today for drunkenness. A drunken driving charge was filed against R Lee Clark and his case is set for hearing this afternoon.
Corporation court in application by G W Ind seeks license to sell soft drinks at 505 North Cameron Street subject to 1933 statute provisions.

City Council approved a 241000 budget for 1934 at a special meeting last night with a tax rate of 1.30 per 100 valuation. The levy is five cents lower than 1933’s 1.35 rate, reflecting the city’s strong financial condition at the end of 1933. The 1934 rate is 25 cents below the 1932 levy, with only one minor change reportedly made by the finance committee before council approval.
The funeral for Julius W. Taylor 84 a prominent farmer of Purgittsville West Virginia was well attended by relatives from several states. The service in Purgittsville M E Church South was led by Reverend Arthur I Orndorff assisted by Reverend J F Owens. Interment followed in a nearby cemetery. Taylor left a widow and five children also three brothers and one sister among others. His death came one month after his brother in law Reverend S S Ludwig. Relatives from this city included Mrs Mattie Ludwig Harold Ludwig Mrs B A Grayson and Robert Ludwig from Washington DC.
In Salisbury Maryland bandits robbed Farmers Bank of Mardela Springs of an undetermined amount. In Washington Frances Perkins urged a permanent labor board. Maryland police warned to seek John Dillinger. Roosevelt moves toward a national aviation policy. In Sasebo Japan thirteen sailors were saved after a torpedo boat capsized Tomozuru.
The Baltimore Sun lists a marriage license issued in the city to Norman Harmon and Miss Virginia Frazier of Baltimore. Harmon is reportedly the son of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Harmon of the D. A. Robinson farm near Clearbrook and has served in the United States armed forces.
County Agent I Fred Stine announced that 250 Frederick County farmers have joined the corn and hog reductions program, totaling about $45,000. The clean-up campaign spurred enrollment, with more signups daily. The drive remains open a few extra days due to weather and rush. Back Creek district plans a March 17 organization meeting at 2 PM in the Court House. Applications for production credit loans are arriving from Strasburg and East Central Fruit Growers associations, with several approved by Strasburg.
Anne Virginia Anderson died Tuesday night at 666 North Market Street at 6 o'clock. She was a young colored woman and is survived by parents David and Hattie Anderson and siblings Charles Robert Townsend Willis Sarah Margaret and Ellen Ransom plus numerous relatives. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2.30 at the family home, conducted by Rev. J. W. Docket of John Mann AME Church, with Prophet James Gordon McPherson assisting.
Secretary Perkins urged creating a permanent labor board as a crucial step in democratic governance and community life. Senator Wagner pressed for enactment of the bill to arm the board with enforcement powers and safeguard workers right to collective bargaining amid concerns of a possible recovery program lapse.

Baker who serves as state treasurer and national organizing deputy.
PAINT ROCK Ala March 14 mystery swathed the deaths of three people found shot on a highway about 20 miles from town. The deceased were Mr and Mrs Hugh Jones and Mack Wocall. Officers puzzled by the circumstances could not determine at once whether the deaths were murder or self-inflicted or the work of an unidentified slayer.

No jury has been ordered for the 27th and officials said they were not advised about a possible summons. Bond in the writ of error case was set at 10000 but no bond has yet been posted. Costs from the trial include 117.25 for jurors and 72.81 for witnesses. Of that, 6560 was approved for W A Carskaden traveling from Salisbury NC and four days per diem. Carskaden is a former bookkeeper for Arthur G Jones Woolen Mills Corp.
The American Store Co. opens a new shop in the former Feinberg store room in the Miller Building on North Loudoun Street tonight from 7 30 to 9 30 for inspection. Management has spent two days arranging stock and finishing touches ahead of tomorrow morning’s public opening.
The Mount Williams Debating Society will host a debate on March 15 at the Mount Williams school house. The topic: Resolved that the Radio is Detrimental to Religious Organizations. Affirmative speakers are H. A. Snapp, Thomas Rosenberger, Mrs. Flagal, and WN. B. Fout. negative speakers are N. C. Williams, A. N. Wallace, Mrs. Hinkle, and J. B. Snapp. Everyone is invited.

A 1933 city audit by Leach Rindfleisch Scott CPAs of Richmond shows a surplus of 42143.84 with assets up and liabilities down. Revenue beat estimates by 7108.13 while expenditures were 33938.26 under budget. Tax rate cut to 135 reduced collections but the rate of collection rose to 76.8 percent. Frederick County clerk records show Byrd and T B Byrd renewing their lease for another year on the Turkey Knob Orchards in Shenandoah county. The lease is signed by receivers Judge F S Tavenner of Woodstock and Herbert S Lavrick of this city, on the old terms.

Funeral rites for Harrison Diehl 38 killed by a passing automobile on North Frederick Pike will be held at Green Hill Cemetery Berryville with Veterans of Foreign Wars honor in charge. Rev Robert B Nelson will take part. The funeral party leaves R T Jones on South Loudoun Street at 1 30 and proceeds to Berryville. Interment will be in the cemetery. Diehl was son of the late William P and Lucy Kindle Diehl and unmarried.
