Two Winchester Women Injured in Auto Collision En Route to WPA Conference
Miss Helen C Shockey and Miss Mary Chrisman, both of Winchester, were in a head on collision near Charlottesville while driving to Richmond for a WPA recreational workers conference. A third woman in the other car was unnamed and colored. All three white women received treatment at the Monticello Hotel for cuts and contusions. Shockey, daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard Shockey, was moving to Staunton to become WPA recreational director for the Staunton district. Chrisman had recently joined Staunton staff and was travelling with Shockey for initial training.
