Winchester civic leader Captain Gray died at 7 45 PM at his North Loudoun Street home after a brief illness of heart disease and pneumonia. He was 68 and long served on the City Council, led the fire department, and was a beloved after dinner speaker and local wit. Funeral set for Sunday at Centenary Reformed Church with burial in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Jimmy Delaney a 26 year old St. Paul light heavyweight boxer died in Minneapolis from blood poisoning after an arm injury from a February 11 bout with Maxie Rosenbloom in Cincinnati. Delaney fractured his left elbow and infection followed despite two operations and a blood transfusion.
