Stonewall Jackson Kinship Portraits and Family Letters
A nephew’s reminiscence sketches Stonewall Jackson as a thoughtful, polite man who cared for relatives and enslaved workers. The narrative traces family letters from 1854 to 1861, Jackson’s courtship, marriage to Miss Morrison, and wartime duties in Winchester, with anecdotes about his treatment of workers, his disdain for critics, and a Guardian-style pruning of social tensions. The piece also reflects on later public school controversy and a local, reflective voice on civic harmony amid conflict.
