The city announces mandatory physical exams for all local CWA employees to assess fitness and proper job placement. Exams run 3 to 5 daily at the city hall jury room, with doctors J E Harris and E C Stuart conducting tests for both men and women.
Administrator W Erle Edwards has been instructed to reduce the C W A labor force in Frederick county to 170 workers for the week of March 2 to 8. The roster includes 20 women and 6 men on sanitation health projects. Further curtailment orders may come next week.

Mrs. Bruce McDonald of Darkesville West Virginia escaped as flames trapped her home on Tuesday. Her mother Mrs. Henrietta Capper of Winchester aided the rescue and the house and most contents were destroyed with about 1000 dollars loss and no insurance.
Richmond six armed bandits held up a guard of the State Planters Bank and Trust Company and robbed him of sixty thousand dollars.
Several hundred union pickets in New Kensington Pennsylvania march in fog and block all but maintenance workers at the Aluminum Company of America plants. Salaried foremen clerical staff are kept out as workers stay home awaiting Regional Labor Board action on grievances over conditions and wages.
The House of Delegates passed a bulky general appropriations bill sending it to the Senate with a net increase of 103,610 over the committee proposal. Key items include a 125,000 building fund for Staunton School for the Deaf and Blind and higher motor vehicle division salaries, with other adjustments across state agencies.
A two story frame house near Rock Enon Springs owned by Herman H. Hable of Winchester and E E Triplett of Rock Enon was destroyed by fire last Sunday. The loss is about 1500 with no insurance. Triplett was away 8am to 5pm and found the home a mass of ruins. Gun and about nine dollars in silver missing.

Six armed men in a black sedan robbed State Planters Bank guard William Coghill of 60000 dollars en route from the Federal Reserve Bank. The attackers overpowered the watchman and three porters then fled as police launched a broad search across nearby stations and patrols.

A bullet from an unknown shooter entered Dr. R. A. Shafer’s West Boscawen home through a bathroom window yesterday afternoon and struck the wall inside the bathroom. The bullet rebounded to the floor and did not penetrate deeply. Authorities suspect it was aimed at starlings, with several people seen shooting earlier that day.

W N McConnell of La Salle Extension University is in Winchester enrolling a group of ambitious youths in a business fundamentals study group. Firemen answered an alarm yesterday afternoon to a bed fire on the second floor of the Airport Lunch Room run by Mrs. Coffman at the Millwood and Front Royal roads intersection. Mrs. Coffman and Mr. Fletcher helped evacuate a young woman as smoke nearly suffocated her. The blaze was extinguished with minimal property damage and operations resumed after cleanup. The bed reportedly belonged to Mr. Hahn.

Unanimous consent is required to introduce a general bill at this stage and John O Rhodes of Louisa, chair of the schools and colleges committee, objected.

Stephens City Virginia March 2 Last night the Future Farmers of America from Stephens City and Middletown chapters hosted 140 fathers and guests at Stephens City High School auditorium. Ross Boyd presided as toastmaster and speakers from county and city offices addressed the crowd. The Middletown group provided entertainment with quartets, vocals, tap dancing and jokes. Andrew Bell spoke first urging fathers to bond with sons and for farm ties to endure. Leslie D. Kline followed with remarks on education and farming in the county.
The funeral of Mrs Anna Virginia Brown will be held at 2 pm Sunday at Centenary Reformed Church. She died yesterday in Memorial Hospital after two weeks as a patient and several blood transfusions. She was 31 and survived by husband Ralph S Brown two sons four brothers and four sisters.
