Paris welcomed Commander Richard E. Byrd as the America crossed the Atlantic, landing near Le Bourget after a fog bound crossing. Reports traced Byrd's progress from New York, with Wanamaker arriving at Paris to greet him and others in Raleigh. Byrd may return via Portugal to Virginia per Richmond mayor Bright.

The Western Union Telegraph Company in this city is collecting signatures for a telegram of congratulations to Commander Richard E. Byrd on his return flight from France. Honolulu salutes Lieutenants Lester J. Maitland and Albert Hegenberger for their 25 hour 50 minute Oakland to Honolulu flight. They will attend a Waikiki hotel suite rest, a military and civil tributes, a community luncheon and public reception with further events planned for July 2 and July 4.
Danville's main traffic bridge was destroyed this morning in a fire caused by a tar kettle used during repairs. The blaze, which sent liquid flame over creosoted blocks, left the bridge submerged except for 30 feet on each side. Estimated loss is $100,000. Public service lines also went down. authorities moved to restore service.

J. Fred Essary head of Washington bureau of the Baltimore Sun will speak at the Virginia State Bar Association dinner at the New Cavalier Hotel Virginia Beach Friday August 5. Junius P. Fishburn owner of the Roanoke Times will also speak. The convention opens August 4 to discuss forming a statewide bar and adopting ethical standards and admission rules.
A deed records transfer of 29 acres from R L Pangle to Miss Laura V Baker of this city. The land lies at the northeast corner of Round Hill four miles west of town and will host a bungalow as a future summer home for Miss Baker, daughter of the late Franck and Mrs. Baker.
Miss Ethel Hall a double for Dorothy Dwan died in Merced river rapids during a Tom Mix thriller shoot. She was swept from a boat and struck a boulder, suffering a fractured skull.
Bluefield West Virginia June 30 The Pocahontas Operators Association and the Tug River Coal Operators Association have begun a merger. The two groups together produce about 20 million tons of coal annually.

A shotgun attack on a moving vehicle near Wytheville Virginia killed William Hale age 45 and injured two others. Bert Hale was gravely injured, James Lantern 14 sustained minor injuries. Barck Nicholis, a former friend, was arrested after the incident. Authorities describe Nicholis as intoxicated and crazed.
In Geneva on June 30 W C Bridgeman head of the British delegation told the Associated Press Britain does not seek naval supremacy over the United States and will not withhold parity in all ship classes. The statement dominated conference discussions with observers predicting it could boost negotiating prospects.
Raymond B. Jones was fatally burned when his clothing caught fire while fueling an oil truck at a Host Ol station in Federalsburg Maryland. He ran into a field and flames were extinguished. Nearby storage tanks containing 15 000 and 12 000 gallons of gasoline ignited, causing a large blaze. The home of a local negro family burned, a warehouse owned by Mart Wright saved, and the loss was estimated at 65 000 dollars.

Colonel Bryan Conrad, U S Army retired, is appointed field agent for the Conservation and Development Commission historical division. He will locate and mark historical places across Shenandoah Valley to Rapidan River, aided by state car, and will conduct research to identify sites to be marked. He remains Winchester city recorder.
Between 9 30 and 10 o clock tonight Mickey Walther champion and Tommy Mulligan of Scotland meet at the Olympia amphitheatre for a 20 round world middleweight title bout. Both fighters show excellent condition and confidence.
