C. B. Lowry, manager of the J. C. Penney Company store, reports May sales up 26.75 percent from last May, the largest gain among Penney stores in the state. He notes overall business conditions are good, advertising aiding recent strong sales, and expects continued growth into summer.
Fairfax Ayres piloted his Spear Man monoplane from St. Louis to Winchester last Monday to visit his mother Mrs. Charles G. Ayres and sister Mrs. Starr at Mrs. Nancy Cobb's on West Boscawen Street. He then flew to New York for work with Blair and Company. The journey featured a difficult landing at Bowles flying field with an improvised approach aided by a barn signals. Ayres is a West Point alumnus and former AEF colonel.
An order in the Frederick Circuit Court allows the trustees of Frederick Circuit, Methodist Episcopal Church South, to sell the parsonage at 448 North Loudoun Street. They will reinvest proceeds in property in the south part of Winchester after approving a 4575 dollar offer from C C Finfrock, who will retire from farming and live in Winchester.
A tiger-striped kitten turned over to Mrs. Robi M. Ward on South Washington Street seeks a good home. The kitten is promising as a mouser and would be a fine family pet while it develops its mouse killing instincts.
