Williams Contends He Was At Church Meeting During Slayings
In Richmond Virginia on June 27 a U S District Court hearing examined attendance records from a St. Louis Baptist Young People's Union to place Earl Conner Williams away from Fredericksburg at the time of Miss Fannie Kurz's death. Williams's alibi faced cross examination as secretary Alice Lilly admitted the name in May 1934 records was not in her handwriting and was added after she ceased being secretary. The defense opened its case after the government rested following a five day trial with nearly 70 witnesses and two written confessions, all disputed as coerced. Debiski testified Williams was in Fredericksburg in November 1934, while Williams claimed he had never been in Virginia before 1935.
