Italy launches bold counter drive on the Piave front

Italian forces drive Austro-Hungarians across the Piave and press a mountain counter offensive. An official statement says 192 prisoners were captured on the Asiago plateau near Monta di Val Bella and 1,333 more, including officers, taken. Italians also crossed to and held bridgeheads east of the river while pursuing retreating Austrian rear guards.

Winchester and Frederick county will stage a lavish Independence Day event led by Capt. Logan R. Pay and Virginia State Guards with support from Secretary Bramlee. Mrs. Emmatine K. Wright Dies in Staunton Va

Telegram reports the death of Mrs. Emmatine K. Wright at the State Hospital in Staunton Virginia. She was daughter of Samuel G. Noakes and Anna Noakes and lived in the city most of her life. A Confederate memory advocate, she belonged to the Ladies Confederate Memorial Association and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She had two marriages, first to John F. Sheller, then William H. Wright, who both predeceased her. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Clinton Athey, of the city. Funeral planned for Friday with remains to be brought home.
