Reports from Berlin and Weimar indicate Germany will sign the armistice terms despite opposition. Gustav Bauer urged swift, unconditional acceptance while the German Assembly debated the plan and a Dutch decision on the Kaiser remained a concern.
The Democratic committees for Shenandoah and Frederick counties announce Harry F. Byrd of Winchester as the party nominee for the State Senate in the ensuing term. He is the only candidate meeting the 60 day pre election qualification rule for the primary date set August 5. The endorsement cites Byrd’s proven legislative experience and suitability to represent the district.
Two aviators, Lieut. Shelley M. Watson of Rogers Texas and civilian M. Ireland of Westbury, were killed when their plane fell several hundred feet near Rye Beach New York. The aircraft caught fire and burned beyond recognition after departing for Hazelhurst Field Mineola.
Pending sanction from the War Department officials plan a Methodist Centenary Exposition sermon delivered from a giant dirigible at Akron. A bishop will ascend with an army officer in charge and will preach through a megaphone.
New York June 24 Eamon De Valera president of the Irish Republic said he would observe American laws during his visit and rejected any interference by Britain. He noted the American people would not tolerate foreign meddling as he sought support for the Irish Republic.
A clipping from the Strasburg News reports plans for a memorial tablet to General Ramseur on the Belle Grove building, with events possibly in mid July. Delegations of NC veterans and Daughters of the Confederacy may attend the unveiling near the Valley Pike.

Bench warrants issued in Delphi on charges of malicious trespass and rioting stem from alleged campaigns against Dunkards who opposed war bonds. Among those named is John A. Shanks, Camden bank president and reputed millionaire, with masked visitors accusing Dunkards of refusing to buy government war bonds. Lost money roll reported between Greek Restaurant and the Shoe Shine Parlor with reward offered.
Several thousand people attended the Sterling Carnival opening under the Friendship Fire Company. The diverse rides and games drew large crowds while officials praised orderly conduct and promised higher quality attractions tonight to enhance the show.
Mr and Mrs Lafayette Shiley of White Post Clarke County Virginia received a telegram from their son Private Harvey Shiley announcing his safe arrival from France. Private Shiley served in the army overseas for 15 months and arrived at the Port of New York and expects to be discharged soon.
A number of John Kerr Schools teachers left yesterday for the summer normal school course at the University Normal School in Charlottesville. Among those departing are Miss Bettie Green, Beulah Cline, Marguerite Daugherty, Mary Gray, Louise Zirkle, and Elizabeth Russell. A lost black hand-bag containing clothing, bank books, papers and valuables was reported between Winchester and Martinsburg on June 22 and is sought by the Winchester Auto Sales Co for reward.
The Ramsey House bill permitting brewing and selling beer of not over 4 percent alcohol is finally passed by the Pennsylvania Senate by a 39 to 19 vote.

Mayor W. S. Breeing of Baltimore was elected suprem dictator of the Loyal Order of Moose at its thirty first annual convention held at Moore House near Aurora Ohio. In Winchester the case Commonwealth of Virginia vs City of Winchester and Harry A. Orndorff, a mail carrier, ended with a decision adverse to Orndorff. He admitted hauling freight and passengers between Marlboro and Winchester city limits but claimed no charges were made within the city. A county license granted last Thursday covered county haulage, yet the judge noted evidence of beyond city transactions and dismissed the charge. Orndorff argued all hauling inside the city was free, with charges applying only after leaving the county.

Mrs Florence Millhiser of Richmond Virginia alleges $250000 in valuables vanished from the Biltmore Hotel safe deposit vault in New York She and her husband checked in May and used a vault containing items valued at about 350000 including a pearl necklace worth over 200000 The couple is said to have a fortune estimated at 30000000.

Washington June 24. The War Department announced casualty totals for the American Seditionary Forces amounting to 289,016. Killed in action including 381 lost at sea, died of wounds, disease, accident and other causes. Wounded in action 210,984 and missing in action 2,370.
Pennsylvania becomes the seventh state to ratify the federal woman suffrage amendment. The House voted 153 to 44 and the Senate 32 to 6. A large rally greeted the announcement with banners and purple white and gold colors displayed throughout the hall.

He has been meeting with chamber leaders to form a committee of representative citizens, with scope and duties to be announced soon. The service has proved valuable nationwide in thousands of towns and is seen as beneficial for Winchester and Frederick County.
Chicago June 24 J Konenkamp of the International Telegraphers Union departs for Washington tonight to discuss the wire strike situation with Postmaster General Burleson. The move was announced by the Federation of Labor.
New York report says a woman was found body in a tied sack floating in the bay near the Bay 1 waterfront in Brooklyn. Police are investigating the death as a possible homicide. The missing person inquiry continues as authorities examine the scene and collect clues.
