Reports from Leopoldville say Albertville the capital of North Katanga may be in rebel hands. An airline pilot described the airfield crowded with armed men and truck convoys moving through the city.
More than 300 members their wives and guests of the Virginia Federation of Postal Clerks are expected to attend the 44th annual convention in the area. Local Federation No. 2023 will host with headquarters at the George Washington Hotel. A Saturday banquet will feature Rep John O Marsh Jr and Don E of Washington.
A gray fox believed rabid attacked Ernest White and his mother Mrs. Marie White by a chicken house on Middle Road. The fox bit Mr White's shoe. he kicked it away, retrieved a shotgun, and killed the animal.
A Strasburg woman, Jean Wills Jamerson, driver of a station wagon, was ordered bound over to the grand jury on manslaughter charges after a fatal June crash at the Loudoun and Whitlock Streets intersection. Judge John W. Rice set bond at 1000 dollars until Monday.
Delegates from the Dept of Virginia VFW and its auxiliary opened their convention at the George Washington Hotel with remarks from a U S Labor Department official. Goldwater cites principled opposition to two sections he calls constitutional threats. Scranton campaigns to frame the vote as a hurdle for Goldwater’s nomination bid. Keating and Javits criticized Goldwater. Eisenhower discussed the matter with him in Gettysburg.
Winchester and Frederick County firemen start a 30 hour basic fire fighting course at E Pall Mall St training grounds. About 80 registered. classes run 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. over two weekends with eight groups and instructors James Geanious and D E Sheads directing.
Niigata Japan faced a new quake offshore in the Sea of Japan as fire crews battled aongoing refinery blaze from Tuesday's disaster. No immediate deaths or injuries reported. U S forces airlifted firefighting foam while a large storage tank complex burned 300 to 400 feet high. The quake added strain to relief efforts across 11 prefectures where 25 people died and over 400 were injured.
The Frederick County Board of Supervisors at a special meeting reaffirmed Plan A to renovate the current courthouse and add to the rear. An alternate would have built a new structure behind the county office building. New blueprints and details will be submitted to Judge Elliott Marshall and the board.

Turkish Prime Minister Ismet Inonu failed to secure a solid parliamentary majority over Cyprus policy. He announced plans to resign after a 199 to 195 vote with two abstentions, prompting President Cemal Gursel to urge party leaders to unite.
