Apple Growers Hear Talks on 1950 Crop Prospects

Apple growers in Frederick County will hear talks at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the county courthouse. A H Teske extension horticulturist at VPI will speak on crop prospects for 1950. Dr A B Groves will discuss Looking at the Spray Program and J P Arthur will cover The Professor Looks at the 1950 Apple Crop. Walker McC Bond will preside with J Kenneth Robinson in charge of the program. Orchardists are urged to bring key workers and allied representatives are invited.

Winchester Teen Beauty Contest Sees 14 More Entrants

Fourteen additional contestants join the Forty and Eight Teen Age Beauty Contest set for 8 p m next Friday at Handley School auditorium. Entrants include Sue Sowers Elizabeth Cather Connie Line Patricia Ann Barton and others with sponsors such as American Legion Post 21 Corrigan's Rug Service and Winchester News Co. Total entrants reach 44 with many from Winchester local firms and nearby towns. About 30 entrants in the annual Soap Box Derby were guests at Willow Lawn Pool in Winchester on a Thursday evening before the July 4 race. They were hosted by B and M Chevrol Company and enjoyed swimming plus refreshments.

Three Children Die Smothered in Ice Box Tragedy

Three children aged 8 4 and 3 were smothered in an abandoned ice box in the family's backyard five miles south of town. The lid reportedly fell shut while they played inside. Their mother Leon Proctor found the bodies on returning home from work.

Women to Talk In Milk Strike in Pittsburgh Area

Wives of 3250 striking milk truck drivers plan discussions with industry leaders in Pittsburgh to seek a resolution. Flood Catastrophe Hits Crooksville Pottery Town

A flash flood from a dam burst swept Crooksville Ohio, destroying two potteries and damaging a power station. Three Rose Farm houses were washed away with two residents missing.
