Dr J L Jarman discusses citizenship at the ity School program. Three special medals are awarded for excellence in Latin scholarship character leadership and other essentials. A musical program is featured in the event.
The Handley High School commencement drew a full Handley auditorium as 91 graduates received diplomas from Superintendent Gar land R. Quarles. Dr Jarman spoke on Citizenship with John M Steck presiding. Medals announced included Latin to Robert Harper and an American Legion award, as the program concluded with music and benediction.
Miss Lutie A. Rogers, 62, longtime Frederick county resident, died at her Middletown home after a long illness. She was born in Gainesboro, daughter of the late Hamilton I. and Sara G. Rogers, and a Methodist Episcopal Church, South member. Survived by four brothers Rufus E. Rogers Edward A. Rogers Walter C. Rogers and Cecil G. Rogers. funeral at 1:30 p.m. from the Rogers home conducted by Rev. W. P. Sunday with interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Pallbearers: E. R. Sperry W. R. Campbell Fred E. Kline S. E. Goode C. E. Stickley and C. S. Pope.
Shepherd is sought in Flint on a charge of unlawfully obtaining money and a capias is sent for detainer if he escapes. He was arrested in Winchester and held on a $420 loss from a local bank while claiming to run a hardware firm with authority to build a branch plant. Accompanied by Cit. Sergeant C. Lee Barr, they head toward Minneapolis to return him for trial.
The Bantam Boys beat the Woolen Mills 5 to 3 in six innings on the Park diamond. The win ties Bantam Boys with Esso All-Stars for first place while Ball Hawks and Woolen Mills sit in the cellar. Park team practices at six this evening ahead of weekend games.
Dr. L A Weigle of Yale Divinity School tells Virginia Council of Religious Education delegates that ignorance folly and mismanagement plus unbridled greed have brought the world to a tragic state. He urges conversion through education and calls for planned economics with government aid to regulate industry and distribution. Large crowds attend the Sunday school convention sessions in Handley High School as the meeting closes tonight with Judean Hills are Holy.
Three Iowa men Filmer Schleuter Al Schultz and Dr W H Fitch were freed in St Joseph Nevada after nearly 18 hours held by escaped Texas convict Joe Palmer 32 who was captured 15 minutes later Palmer had escaped from the Eastar Texas prison farm with four other men and faced robbery and kidnapping charges in Iowa indicating he would go to the electric chair if returned to Texas.

Prof. H Augustine Smith of Boston University will direct the pageant Judean Hills Are Holy in the Handley High School auditorium. The 42nd Virginia Sunday School convention reaches its climax at the final session tonight with Smith making his sixth Virginia appearance and the production to be staged by his direction.
About 100 people from Winchester and Frederick County will join in the pageant with rehearsals under way for several days. Miss Jane Gray Stouffer of Winchester chairs the pageantry committee. Prof Smith performs Dream Pictures or On Wings of Song and the convention adjourns after the pageant.
Miss Evelyn Barbour of New York will preach at the United Brethren Church Sunday at 11 AM. The pastor opens the services and a male quartet sings two numbers. Barbour recently earned a ministerial degree from Union Theological Seminary and has worked on New York's East Side. Garnet Hamrick of Winchester has assisted Barbour in New York this past year.

At Upperville Colt and Horse Show on opening day Dr. L. M. Allen's Clifton's Gem won first in polo ponies. Don Diablo, a gray, hurled rider in a heavy weight hunter class, was unhurt after a spill. Lodge suffered minor injuries. Readout lists winners across thoroughbreds, pony classes, hunters, and polo ponies with entries from Allen, Whitney, and local stables.
A bomb exploded in the office of Andre Citroën in Paris today as part of a terror campaign by the "three judges of hell." The bomb, addressed to Citroën, was opened by the plant librarian. four other devices failed to explode in the morning mail, injuring four people and raising total bombs in 48 hours to ten.

New York June 15 stock market edged higher with cautious gains as sentiment rose on President Green of the AFL proposing a mediation board to resolve disputes at the Pittsburgh steel workers convention and call off threats of a strike. Wheat and other commodities were flat to modestly mixed while bonds held firm and the mark showed modest improvement.

In Peiping a bandit attack killed Dr. J. H. Ingram a 75 year old American missionary after he shielded his wife and grandchildren. The United States Legation pressed Chinese authorities to pursue outlaws and protect foreign residents as violence rises in the area. Dr Ingram a fifty year China veteran from Richland county Ohio linked to the American Board of Missions and a noted “foreign friend” in China. His family includes daughter married to Captain William F Mayer of Edgewood Arsenal and another daughter Ruth Ingram at Barnes Hospital St Louis. The episode follows recent shootings of two American officers and a local kidnapping with several villagers slain in bandit violence.
William Green of the American Federation of Labor presented a plan to the steel workers convention calling for an impartial three member board appointed by the President to settle steel code disputes and mediate other quarrels. The plan would let workers elect representatives and possibly end a strike, as delegates debated its differences from the Roosevelt approach.
