FAA Installs IBM 9020 Computers at Leesburg Center
The Leesburg Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center will install three IBM 9020 computers to replace one Univac system and handle radar data automatically. The first unit will be installed soon with two more by 1971, boosting efficiency as air traffic grows and pilots are identified by altitude and code on the radar scope. Officials say the project lessons workload and costs about 15 million dollars overall.
