Two Virginia men and a Spotsylvania County officer drowned in separate incidents. David Anthony Hanvey, 13, of Hampton, stepped into a deep hole while wading near New Market Creek. James Moses, 31, of Henrico County, disappeared during a pond swim near Ashland. Sidney Sullivan, 45, a core section officer at Lorton Reformatory, fell into a Caroline County pond while fishing at night. his body was recovered by a State Police diver.
