Trucks with emergency supplies pressed on as searchers hunted for more bodies in Sanderson Texas after a flash flood washed away homes and businesses. The disaster left at least 13 dead, with 16 missing and a rising death toll as rescue efforts continued through the day.
Morris Nichols a 22 year old railroad brakeman and former football player describes how the Sanderson flood swept away seven members of the John Wesley Johnson family. He survived battered but not seriously injured and recounts the peril he faced.
The Experiment Station notes no rain in the area but Winchester experienced rainfall last night. The weatherman forecasts occasional showers and thunder tonight, with clearer skies tomorrow and temperatures in the low 80s.
The Senate approved a $200 million across the board reduction in Johnson's foreign aid authorization, lowering next two year totals from 3.443 to 3.243 billion. Sen. Morse argued waste and sought further cuts, while leadership aims to finish action on the bill. The measure includes a 15 percent cap on funds transferred to international agencies and offsets the cut with earlier additions for Southeast Asia development programs.

Frederick County Board of Supervisors schedules a public hearing Monday on a proposed county budget of 2,686,043 for 1965-66. The plan uses 2.20 real estate and 3.00 personal property tax rates after a recent reassessment set the real estate assessment rate at 30 percent.
The Associated Press reports two Augusta County men died in a highway crash. The fatalities raise Virginia’s year to date road toll to 421, up from 396 a year ago.
James Calvin Foxx, 25, of Mt. Solon and James Edwin Christian, 22, of Weyers Cave died when Foxx’s car left Virginia 42 south of Bridgewater. Police said the vehicle skidded at a curve, struck a tree and overturned.

Ambassador Maxwell D. Taylor returns to Saigon with U S determination to stay in Southeast Asia. He carries President Johnson's counsel to the Vietnamese leaders as civilian officials resign to caretaker roles. Officials foresee heavy Viet Cong losses but continued fighting and no peaceful solution in sight.
A stationary front produced widespread cloudiness and showers across Virginia. A second front from the Midwest is expected to merge with it and bring clearing skies.
