Mr A J Showalter Dies At Home In Stephens City
Mr. A J Showalter a retired farmer and Confederate veteran from near Stephens City died this morning at his son Claude Showalter’s home on North avenue after a lengthy illness. Born in Rockingham county about 76 years ago he fought in the Tenth Virginia Infantry Volunteers and later lived near Mount Clinton. Burial will be at Mount Clinton Christian Church on Thursday. He married Annie F Woodward who died in 1912 and his children include Claude, Charles, Ada Painter and Alice Long.

Clarke veteran Diemon Estep dies at 84 in Millwood
Dilmon Estep a Clarke county prominent citizen and former Milwood merchant died at his home in Millwood at age 84. Born March 31, 1834 in Shenandoah County he served in the Civil War including as captain of the Edinburg Grays and fought at Manassas Gettysburg and Spotsylvania before being imprisoned at Fort Delaware. After the war he rebuilt local structures and ran a general store and stage line to Winchester. Funeral services were held at his house with burial in Old Stone Chapel Cemetery.
