Relatives learned of the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Pole wife of Dr E A Pole of Hot Springs Virginia at her home there due to heart trouble. She was a sister of Mrs Hunter H McGuire and Mrs Offley wife of Lieut Col Offley of the U S Army both of Winchester. Mrs Pole's daughter was to be married in Hot Springs the following day as guests were arriving.

O N Clark a young white man was arraigned before Magistrate Williams on two warrants charging illegal liquor sales. He allegedly sold two quarts and confessed. he pled not guilty, was sentenced to 30 days in jail on each count, totaling 60 days, with a $100 fine to stand.

Milford Johnston, born on an Opie plantation near Winchester Old Virginia and later enslaved, died at his Graff Station area home aged about 89. He served in a Confederate supply wagon group during the Civil War. emancipation came with Lincoln’s proclamation. Surviving: his wife and twelve children, five of whom remain, with five other children who moved north. Funeral at his home Saturday at 2 PM officiated by Rev Tage Tiesen of St. Paul’s.
