Morgan's Last Fight in 1790s Congressional Race
Historian Everard Kidder Meade describes Daniel Morgan as a quick study of conflict who challenged Robert Rutherford in 1795 for the 4th Congress. Rutherford won after framing Morgan as an amateur, while two years later Morgan defeated Rutherford in a brutal campaign for the 5th Congress. A Congressional Elections Committee found insufficient proof of bribery or unlawful votes, and Morgan triumphed in the end.
