Harlem Holdups Turn Deadly For Police Officer
In Harlem a confrontation with two robbers left Police Sergeant William H O Shaughnessy dead after he stopped a robbery at a wall of 30 patrons. Patrolman Edward Ledden was wounded but helped wound and capture suspects. Detective Ernest Rice was injured but also wounded and captured one robber. Two men were later arrested in connection with a separate dice game killing of Patrolman Maurice D O'Brien on January 30, 1930.

Man Slain In Ohio Home By Strange Attack
In Dayton Ohio on June 9 a 50 year old man Thomas Benge was killed in his home by an unidentified attacker who also seriously wounded his wife and daughter. The assailant struck the trio with a blow that crushed the husband's skull and fractured the wife’s skull while the daughter Laura suffered lesser injuries. The victims provided little information, though Bernice Johnson the granddaughter said a black man covered her face before the fatal blow and that Tom is dead.

Old Joe Ridley Sentenced for Illegal Distilling
Joe Ridley, longtime liquor maker in the era of lawful distilling, pleaded guilty in Frederick County Circuit Court to an incitement charge of illegal manufacture of ardent spirits. Judge Philip Williams imposed a $5 fine and six months in jail. Ridley, age 99, was arrested after a county raid on a still location.
