Fire Blamed on Lightning in Historic County Home Inferno
A porch to attic blaze destroyed the Jackson place also known as the Scott Grant House, 3.5 miles north of Winchester on Rt. 11. Fire officials said the lightning sparked the fire, which gutted the two story home and displaced two families. Rescuers battled heat and smoke, salvaging some possessions while a cat perished. Fire crews stayed on scene until late evening to prevent rekindling.
