A severe hailstorm struck Maryland and nearby areas causing enormous property and crop damage. Hagerstown and Frederick County faced the worst effects with hundreds of homes wrecked, thousands of windows broken, trains halted, and telecommunication lines knocked out. Authorities estimate losses between $500,000 and $750,000 as factories and hotels suffered extensive damage.

Confederate Memorial Day Observed With Large Crowds
A sixth annual Confederate Memorial Day gathering drew about ten thousand visitors to Frederick City. Despite heavy rain bursts, sunshine appeared between seven in the morning and six in the evening. The parade was well marshalled by W. Spott White and T Russell Cather gave an eloquent address at Stonewall Cemetery introduced by R Gray Williams. Reverend F M Richardson offered invocations and Reverend Dr Blakemore gave the benediction.

A commission will hear evidence and award damages if any to Mrs Annie Hack and others as the Winchester and Western Railroad Company gains a right of way one mile south of Winchester on the Valley Pike. Young Soldier Worthington Reported Missing Again
Charles Lloyd Worthington, 24, native of Winchester and Baltimore resident, serving with Canadian infantry in France, is officially reported missing as of May 8 after earlier missing episodes. He left Baltimore in 1915, worked for Poe & Davies, and sent cheerful letters while serving under fire.
