Bid to Ground DC-10s Rebuffed by Federal Judge
An airline passengers group sought to ground all DC-10 jets until investigators identify the cause of the American Airlines DC-10 crash that killed 274. Judge George Hart refused the temporary restraining order, saying agencies should finish their inquiry and that grounding would severely harm travelers. The FAA ordered visual inspections revealing defects in nearly half of domestic DC-10s. Ralph Nader called to curb DC-10 flights. Separate incidents included a bomb scare evacuation at Kennedy and a DC-10 hydraulic warning in Chicago.
