Judge blocks injunction against Koontz and Malcolm voting

In Roanoke, Judge Robert Woltz refused to issue injunctions against Frederick County supervisors Roger Koontz and Thomas Malcolm regarding their June 20 vote on a school board appointment. The ruling held the court lacks jurisdiction to block a popularly elected official from exercising legislative votes.

Italy election stalemate persists as Christian Democrats lose ground

In Rome the national vote left the Christian Democrats short of a majority and the Communists reduced their share by about four points. The Socialists trailed, while smaller parties gained. Senate results mirrored the Chamber of Deputies with similar splits. In London the Archbishop of Canterbury Donald Coggan announced retirement for January 1980 after a 14-day East Europe tour. He will become a life peer in the Lords.

Arena Roof Falls in Storm in Kansas City

Severe storm in Kansas City toppled the Kemper Arena roof amid 70 mph winds and heavy rain. The collapse cut power to about 100000 customers and caused fires, flooding, and shattered windows. Officials estimated damage at 1 million dollars as emergency crews worked to restore service and secure the area.
