Copperhead bites six year old girl near Wardensville
Janet Duncan six, of Stephenson, was bitten on the right hand by a copperhead while picking ferns near Wardensville West Virginia. Her father applied a tourniquet and she was rushed to a Wardensville doctor then sent to a Winchester hospital where Dr. E C Stuart Sr treated the wound and administered serum.

A large barn on the W. M. Hot tle estate east of Woodstock burned to the ground after a lightning strike during a severe Monday night storm. Three fire companies fought the blaze but could not save the building or its contents.

Seven marriage licenses were issued by Clarke county in May. One license shows a groom previously married twice and divorced and his bride once married and divorced. During May Clarke Circuit Court granted two absolute divorces for cruelty and desertion and a bed and board for desertion. Six licenses went to white couples and all divorces involved white persons.

Quiz Show Suspect Caught Entering Radio Studios

Emperor Ore Boat Sinks in Lake Superior Disaster
Twelve crew members drowned and three others were missing after the Emperor struck a rock in fog near Lonely Isle Royale and sank. Twenty-one survivors were taken to Fort Williams Ontario as the 7000 ton liner operated by Canada Steamship Lines faced losses of a 35 member crew. The wreck occurred near Passage Island light in upper Lake Superior, with one body recovered of a woman cook.

James A Thompson 28 a former Winchester police member becomes Leesburg police chief. He assumed duties yesterday. He is son of Mr and Mrs Alex Thompson of Winchester and married to Jessie Fanning of this city. They have a daughter Donna Lyn.
