Justice Department widens dragnet to capture propaganda efforts opposing registration for military service ahead of the June 5 deadline. Authorities loom over those aiding enemies of the United States while enforcing wartime exemptions and drafting measures in Columbus and beyond.
London reports three American sailing ships the Frances M the Barbara and the Dirigo sunk by German submarines with one life lost. Survivors were picked up and the crews landed at Gibraltar and Cadiz. The Dirigo's first mate John Ray was killed while trying to reach a lifeboat. Survivors faulted German firing before the sinking.
A full attendance meeting is called for 8 PM to arrange plans for the sixth of June. All hands are urged to be present.

John B. Chapman a county farmer collapsed while operating a road scraper at the Winchester Cold Storage plant in North Winchester. He appeared to suffer heart failure and died on the job as two horses pulled the scraper before coworkers observed his collapse.
