A heavy trailer truck struck a bus carrying women to a freezing plant near Keller Virginia on US Route 13. Five people died and thirteen were hospitalized at Nassawadox area hospitals. SUFFOLK Virginia July 20 Twenty one persons were injured three seriously when a Carolina Trailways bus ran off the highway on Route 337 near Suffolk to avoid a left turning car. Drowned man Welton Landacre in Shenandoah River tragedy
Welton Landacre 34 of Winchester drowned Sunday in the Shenandoah River near Berry’s while fishing with his father and Robert Chapman. He disappeared about 2 30 p m after entering the water to swim toward the bank. Rescuers found the body an hour and twenty minutes later. Coroner ruled accidental death by drowning. Mrs Virginia Bell Ritter 84 widow of James C Ritter died early today at her home 117 Millwood Ave after a long illness. Born December 13 1857 in Frederick County she was the daughter of the late James and Kitty Peery Star Tannery. She married December 20 1885 and lived in Winchester 40 years. A member of the United Brethren Church she was known as a Christian woman. Surviving are three sons Clarence L Ritter St Marys Ohio Burton C Ritter and Roy Holmes Ritter both of Winchester. Services Wednesday at 4 pm at Jones Funeral Home with Ronald Wilson and Rev W A Wilkerson officiating. Pallbearers listed. Interment Mt Hebron Cemetery.
